A — Favor Roebling Duo In Youthful Stakes East Indies, Ferd Have Won At Jamaica Meet; Navy Chief Breaks From Number 7 Stall JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., April 30.— The Jamaica spring meeting enters its final phase on Monday with the thirty-seventh running of the 0,000 Youthful Stakes for juveniles at five furlongs. This fixture will be followed on Thursday by the 5,000 Firenze Handicap for fillies and mares at a mile and one -sixteenth, after which the Metropolitan racing fans are granted a change of venue. The 3 2 -day Belmont Park meeting opens with the fifthy-sixth running of the 0,000 Toboggan Handicap at six furlongs on the Widener straightaway on Friday and continues through June 11, when the 5,000 Belmont Stakes brings the brilliant session to a close. After that. Aqueduct, Empire-at-Jamaica, Saratoga-at-Jamaica and Saratoga-at-Saratoga and the first thing you know its Labor Day and wasnt it a lovely summer! Eleven youngsters, eight of whom have already visited the winners circle, have been named for the Youthful, a dash which has been won in earlier years by such stars as Man o War, Bud Lerner, Chance Play, Ariel, Vander Pool, El Chico, Requested, Lucky Draw and Nearway. Andy Schuttinger will probably saddle the favorites in J. M. Roeblings East Indies and Mrs. Schuttinger s Ferd, who will be ridden by Eric Guerin and Basil James, respectively. Both colts have won impressively at the meeting. East Indies beating Ferd by several lengths and that colt coming back to trounce another large field in faster time when racing on his own. Showed Speed at Santa Anita E. P. Taylors Navy Chief a son of War Admiral — Sari Omar, who showed blazing speed when stepping three furlongs in :32% in his only start at Santa Anita, may be the second choice here. Chris Rogers will be in the saddle and the colt breaks from the number 1 stall, which is a decided advantage for fast breakers at Jamaica. Dave Shaers Hy Ginnis is the topweight of the Youthful field, with 122 pounds, having won two races, but seems somewhat up against it in this company. The other winners in the Youthful are Peter A. Markeys Tops All. Addison Stables Ar-court, G. D. Wideners Uptown and Edward M. OBriens Little Bad. Tops All and Ar-court have both raced in claimers, while Uptown followed his victory with a couple of defeats. C. V. Whitneys Boodle seems considerably the best of the maidens in the Youthful, but has drawn the outside post position, and it is doubtful if he can make up the ground he will be compelled to lose. This son of Mahmoud — Boojiana finished behind Little Bad and Elkcam Stables Blue victory in his debut in which he raced greenly. Blue Victory finished seven lengths behind Ferd in his previous start, while Little Bad was beaten by both East Indies and Ferd. .
