JOHNSTOWN KID drew away from MAGIC CHIEF early to establish a clear lead, held sway under steady pressure and lasted while tiring to hold TOOLMAKER safe. The latter, outrun early, improved his position steadily after three furlongs, drifted wide in the drive and was not good enough. MAGIC CHIEF was steadied when unable to stay with the winner, saved ground and held on well. PENNANT 0 WAR circled horses in the drive to make up ground late. JACKS TONI was outrun. GRACE A., lucky to find racing room next to the rail while improving her position, came out slightly for the drive and, under extreme pressure, wore down IDA A. to be up in the final strides. IDA A. stole an exceptionally long lead, then shortened stride after seven furlongs, but held on stubbornly and just missed.
