Run in May 74 Times CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 4.— Since 1932, the Kentucky Derby has been decided on the first Saturday in May each year, excepting 1945. In that year the date of the Derby renewal was June 9, resulting from a temporary blackout of racing as a result of the war. In only one other year has the Derby been run in any month other than May. Back in 1901 the Derby date was April 29.
