Jewell Named Announcer For Keeneland Vendues Will Serve With Auctioneers Swinebroad, Bond This Summer LEXINGTON, Ky., June 13.— The Breeders Sales Company today announced the selection of Robert B. Jewell to serve as announcer for the 1951 Summer Sales. Along with auctioneers George Swinebroad and Doc Bond,. Jewell will occupy the rostrum during the four days of the yearling sales beginning July 30 at Keeneland. Jewell is a native of Wilmore, Ky., and has had extensive experience in horse auctions. He has been closely associated with Swinebroad for 15 years at various sales throughout the country and has done the major portion of the announcing at the Standardbred Sales at Harrisburg, Pa., for the past 12 years. During this period he has assisted in the sale of such horses as Imperial Hanover, a 2,000 purchase, and White Hanover who commanded a final bid of 2,000. He also has been associated with Ohio Breeders Sale of Delaware, Ohio, the Midwestern Sale at Springfield, HI., and the E. J. Baker dispersal sale. At the latter vendue the renowned Algiers was sold for 0,000. In addition to his sales activities, Jewell served as manager of the Kentucky State Fair at Louisville from 1940 through 1942 and presently is a director of the United States Trotting Association, a post he has held for 11 years. Jewell resides on his farm-located just outside of Wilmore and is married to the former Margaret Elliot, of Lancaster, Kyi He was graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts. Like his father, Asa Jewell, he has owned several broodmares and now has the good producer Fantail at hisTarm.
