J Draw for Post Positions In Championship Sprint Easter Grattan, Dr. Parker and John Lee Will Start Saturday SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., June 27. — Declarations will be made tomorrow for the ,000 added Championship sprint stake at Sportsmans Park which finds 16 pacers eligible. Post positions could tell the story when the drawings are made in rac-1 ing secretary Jerry Baiers office since the race is 6 1-2 furlongs. In that distance, a good start means much, especially when there are such fast starters as Easter Grat- tan, who holds the track record for nine-sixteenths of a mile; Dr. Parker who has the record at Cicero for the six and one-half furlong distance, and John Lee, who is considered the horse with the fastest quarter of a mile on the grounds. Although Dr. Parker holds the record f or the distance in question Saturday night. John Lee is the talk of the town after his spectacular performance last week. The nine-year-old star went his mile in 2:043s to beat such standouts as Danny Direct, Atomic Might, Guest Star and Victory Grattan, all entered for the big event. There is some question about Charming Scots starting Saturday. If he does it will be his first appearance of the season, after nursing a lame leg all spring. The race is expected to send the mutuel handle close to the 00,000 mark, which would be a new record for Sportsmans Park trotters. Twice this season the 75,- 000 mark has been passed without benefit of usual seasonal weather. Meanwhile, tomorrows nine-race card sends 18 fast trotters out for the ,540 stake event. The first division is headed by Robert E. D., driven by young Jack Hank- ins. Robert E. D., a front runner, has won his last two starts and likes the kind of drive Jack gives him. Brazie should be the favorite since he seems to be dropping down in class somewhat, but the young blood like Robert E. D., Delnora Hanover. Clever Song, and Berthas Champ are not to be overlooked. Jake Mahoney pilots Pearl Worthy in the second division and will probably be riding the favorite off his spectacular six out of 10 record. Worthy Spud and Potomac Lad will get plenty of backing off their con- sistent form.
