NoDangerof JHWhitney Losing Owners License LicenseHot Hot Jeopardized by Chairmanship Of Political FunaRaising Group GroupNEW NEW YORK N Y May 3 Contrary to published reports here this morning John Hay Jock Whitney coowner of the Grcentree Stable is not in jeopardy of los ¬ ing his ense to race horses in New York state tliis newspaper learned today todayWhitney Whitney who was appointed chairman of the ISNV York State Republican partys United Republican Finance Committee last uruary reoprtedly was faced with the prospect of resigning that post or facing the loss of his owners license He was said to tiave come under a law rushed through the closing days of the legislatures session which bars public and party officials from awning stock in either harness or thor lUghbred tracks working for the tracks or racing horses in the state The law was an aftermath of the harness racing scan ¬ dals in New York which revealed political tieups with that sport sportHowever However Ashley T Cole chairman of the New York State Racing Commission told a DAILY RACING FORM reporter today that as far as he is concerned he can see no rea son why Mr Whitney should not be en ¬ titled to a license as an owner ownerCole Cole declared that the law specifically says that only the chairman vicechair ¬ man secretary treasurer counsel and members of the executive committee of a state political party come under the pro ¬ visions of the law and that Whitney as merely a fundraising committee chairman is not affected affectedEarlier Earlier in the day Whitney said through his secretary that he was withholding com ¬ ment on the situation until his legal status is clarified clarifiedAlso Also involved in the situation is Frederic H Bontecou veteran chairman of the Dutchess County Republican Committee who owns a small string of thoroughbreds Bontecou resigned in protest against the law but Cole said that was unnecessary since his position is not one of those men ¬ tioned in the law He reiterated that both Whitney and Bontecou still are eligible for owners licenses
