Eight Sophomores In Mainmast Purse PurseVarsity Varsity Probable Favorite Over Territory and Fays Reaper in Bowie Spring SpringBOWIEj BOWIEj Md May 4 Threeyearolds nonwinners of three races other than maiden or claiming are placed in the fea ¬ tured position at Bowie Wednesday after ¬ noon in the 4500 Mainmast Purse The sevenfurlong event has attracted eight sophomores including R W Hallowells Territory and Carl M Grahams Fays Reaper a pair of local winners Others in the mainmast are Sylvester Richs Varsity Clyde E Buckleys Little F Vic Posners Swift Steve Samuel A Pecks White Drift E S ODeskys Skyrode and Emerald Hill Stables Marcy Girl GirlTerritory Territory was a maiden when the local meeting got under way but boasts two vic tories over the track He first won at seven furlongs then came back to wear down the wellregarded Elberwhirl at the sixfurlong distance The Contest colt is a goodlook ¬ ing individual and may continue his win ¬ ning ways though the company Is a bit better than he has been meeting meetingFays Fays Reaper a daughter of Reaping Reward showed improvement in her last to whip 7500 claimers over the mile and a sixteenth distance She hardly rates with Territory and several others in the Main ¬ mast but the Graham horses are running especially well at present presentRacing Racing Well for Trainer Emery EmeryPossible Possible favorite in the Mainmast is Varsity a son of Unbreakable who was claimed from his debut at Tropical Park last winter and has since done very well for trainer Dave Emery He has raced five times this spring in Maryland and has earned a portion of the purse on each oc ¬ casion winning one of the quintet In his last endeavor he was four lengths behind Woodlands Rustic Billy and Old Glendale which would give him an edge over the company he meets Wednesday WednesdayWhite White Drift came to Maryland with two consecutive Hialeah victories to her credit but showed little in her last appearance on March 26 finishing 10 lengths behind Bushers Beam Belfast Varsity and others over a muddy strip She has since been freshened and the respite should have aided her considerably following a busy Florida campaign campaignSwift Swift Steve has failed to win in five starts this year but showed improvement in his last when third behind Helioscope and Major Pomp at six furlongs Further im ¬ provement could make the Alsab colt a contender contenderLittle Little F is another without a victory as a threeyearold but has several good efforts to her credit some of them since arriving in Maryland In her last appear ¬ ance she was fourth behind Spartan Queen in a race for claimers of the 9000 to 8000 variety varietySkyode Skyode hasnt raced this season after having completed his twoyearold cam ¬ paign with a pair of ThistleDown victories Marcy Girl has shown nothing in two starts this season her only victories last year coming at Beulah Park
