Overpayment in Mutuel Prices 1 As Tote Board IsShortCircuited IsShortCircuitedSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 4 Unexpected dividends for local racing fans were declared here yesterday when dampness shortcircuited wires in the totalisator board resulting in a pay ¬ off at higher prices than the odds actually called for forWires Wires connected with the combination windows were thrown out of kilter before the start of the fifth race and bets regis ¬ tered were not tallied on the tote board Thus the odds remained high and the track paid off at those odds oddsThe The board functioned incorrectly again for the sixth race but returned to form for the seventh and eighth events How ¬ ever the ninth race saw the tote out of alignment for the third time and it became apparent to the board supervisor that all was not well Odds were then figured manually resulting in a 10minute delay in the payoff payoffThe The American Totalisator Company will assume the loss of 1300 the overpayment to lucky fans on the fifth and sixth races There was no bonus today incidentally Company repairmen have the big board back on the right track
