Larry Ellis to Be Named For ThistleDown Cup Route Distance of 5,000 Race On July 17 Suits Lingle Runner THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 18. — It was learned today that Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lingles Larry Ellis, who was narrowly beaten in the 0,000 Bunker Hill Invitation Mile at Rockingham Park yesterday will be listed among the nominees for the 5,000 ThistleDown Cup to be run here on Saturday, July 17. Something of a Cinderella horse, Larry Ellis was claimed by the astute Lingle for ,500 and improved immediately. He at one time held two Rockingham Park track records and for the past three seasons has been regarded as the champion of the New England circuit. Last year Larry Ellis won one minor feature, the Paul Revere but took at least a minor share of the purse in eight other stakes and handicaps. Perhaps his best 1953 effort was a second to Royal Vale in the 0,000 Massachusetts Handicap. Lingle is not unknown on the Ohio racing circuit. The one time mule trainer and mule trader from Missouri, brought the famed selling plater Dancing Gob to Ohio s6me years ago. Lingle had claimed Dancing Gob for ,000 earlier in the same season at Sunshine Park and then got the gelding in such good shape that he won 17 races that
