Hug Up Takes Feature On Lincoln Downs Card CardRoars Roars Down Middle of Stretch To Defeat Tarzan and Driving DrivingBy By FRED GALIANI GALIANILINCOLN LINCOLN DOWNS Lincoln R I May 1 JoEd Farms Hug Up roared doton the middle of the stretch to capture the featured Kingston Purse here this sunny and cool afternoon by an increasing half length over Sunnycrest Stables Tarzan Almost two lengths back in third place was R Nardinis Driving who headed Big League Stables Isterrific for third money Hug Up was ridden by apprentice John E Smith who did quite well last season but has had a scarcity of mounts this year The winner a fiveyearold son of Thumbs Up Hugette paid 1220 and covered the seven furlongs in 128 over the fast strip stripHug Hug Up won here earlier in the meet ¬ ing under Smith and finished third the next time put for his last effort This was his third victory in nine starts this season all scored over this track trackDriving Driving was just that when the field for the Kingston was sent on its way by Johnny Morrissey and in the run to the wire he outsped Tarzan from his rail posi ¬ tion Around the bend Driving maintained his advantage drawing out to a half length lead Glimmerglass was third before Game in Hand with Isterrific Hug Up and Blue Boy next nextDriving Driving and Tarzan were still fighting it out rounding the turnw and in the stretch where the rest of the field bunched up in the race after the leaders Driving cracked first and Hug Up came down on the outside and in a brief spurt had all passed but Tar ¬ zan The latter switched his tail under punishment and was no match for Hug Up The latter bore in through the late stretch but did not bother any contender The rest of the field was fanned out across the track with Driving Isterrific Game in Hand and Glimmerglass only heads apart behind the firSt two to cross the wire wireTed Ted Johnson scored a double in the early part of the program winning the first race with Osagian and the fifth with Skin Diver The latter paid a quick return on the 4000 for which he was haltered out of his last race by Mrs A Robertson
