business world as the founder of the Yellow Cab Company and the Hertz UDrive It System Coming to the United States from Austria at the age of five he began his business career as a newsboy and worked his way up to a position of leadership in the trans ¬ portation business businessThe The idea of establishing the fund came when Mr Hertz read in a newspaper article that the Soviet Unions educational system was training twice the number of electrical and mechanical engineers that are being trained in the United States The establish ¬ ment of the fund of which Mr Odium is president was announced two weeks before the launching of the first Sputnik SputnikMr Mr and Mrs Hertz has bred and raced many turf champions since they entered the sport in the early 1920s They own the Stoner Creek Stud Farm in Kentucky and formerly bred horses at their Amarillo Ranch near Los Angeles Their greatest horse was Count Fleet rated among the best horses ever to race in this country who won the Triple Crown Kentucky Der ¬ by Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1943 They also won tne 1929 Kentucky Derby with Reigh Count
