Special Choice Captures Ascot Sprint With Rush RushNorth North View Gelding Runs Down Demetrios V in Final Strides StridesBy By E E HUK LEI ASCOT PARK Cuyahoga Falls Ohio May 12 The North View Farms Special Choice responded to strong handling by jockey Buck Thornburg in the stretch and eked out a halflength victory over Mr and Mrs Pete Maxwells Demetrios V be ¬ fore a crowd of 4720 here today Gene Bowmans Clotted Cream was two lengths further back in third position in the 6l2 furlongs sprint which was the supporting feature on the eightrace program today Special Choice second in his last two Ascot outings was slightly overlooked in todays dash and paid 1120 while racing the dis ¬ tance in 120 over a very fast racing suiface suifaceMost Most of the crowd went for Demetrios V installing him as the favorite to come from his inside post position and score his sec ¬ ond win of the meeting in Maxwells candy candyi i Continued on Page Four Special Choice Captures Ascot Sprint With Rush RushNorth North View Gelding Runs Down Demetrios V in Final Strides Continued from Page One Onestriped striped colors For about six furlongs of the sprint that was just the script as Demetrios V dashed off to a length and a half lead and turned back successive bids by Clotted Cream and Sum Style StyleFor For a fleeting minute it appeared that the favorite might stall off Special Choice too as Thornburg brought the Joes Choice gelding from far back to draw on nearly even terms in the middle of the stretch However Thornburg put his mount to very strong pressure with his whip hand and the North View racer gradually inched clear in the final 70 yards to gain the decision The win was the 17th of the meeting for Thornburg ThornburgClyde Clyde Jennings John Alden was solidly backed to 7to10 favorite in the second race of the day and the Free For All geld ¬ ing won like an oddson choice should tak ¬ ing the measure of Jimmie McCutchens Youngstown by seven and onehalf lengths after opening up a 10length lead early in the 6y2 furlongs sprint Jockey Boyd Morris was easing up his mount at the end of the dash which required 120 seconds and John Alden paid 340 while winning his second purse for Jennings at this meeting meetingJockey Jockey Joe Snyder did a good job of keeping James K Focklers Diabolic Test straight during the drive of the opening race and piloted the Footsaved gelding to a threequarters length win over Mrs Edna Skibbas Hokey Pokey Diabolic Test showed a tendency to lug in while holding a short lead over Hokey Pokey in the stretch run and Snyder wisely refrained from hitting his mount but kept him under strong hand I riding and free from contact with Hokey Pokey Diabolic Test raced the 6J furlongs in 120 and returned 1320 for the win It was Snyder s 15th win here and Morris 18th with the winning combination worth 2300 in the Daily Double
