j On the Trot By MORRIE KURLANSKY V VRecord Record Is Immediate Insko Goal Morgan in Spotlight With Double Boomtown Dunblane in BetteHForm BetteHFormMAYWOOD MAYWOOD PARK Maywood 111 May 13 Monday nights program was high ¬ lighted by Del Inskos struggle to score his 31st victory of the themeeting meeting The young younglowan lowan whose skillful skillfuldriving driving feats have havethrilled thrilled Maywood Park Parkcrowds crowds for the past pastsix six weeks however howeverwas was not to reach the thecoveted coveted winners circle although no one could couldI I have tried harder than the diminutive team ster Finishing fifth in the second race with Minna K his first mount of the night Insko garnered third money in the third race with Grand Queen He proceeded to ijake down third money with his next three mounts Vucan Gunfighter and Flash Win gay respectively From then on things be ¬ gan to improve somewhat but not enough to satisfy the capable young mans follow ¬ ers who had win tickets on his next three mounts Prince Jayzoff Markaway and Morris Abbe all driven by the leading Maywood Park reinsman finished second secondIt It is Inskos avowed goal to set a new record for number of wins for a May wood Park meeting and even if through last week he could not maintain the ter ¬ rific pace of the first half of the meet ¬ ing when he averaged better than a win per racing night he still has a fine chance to break Howard Beissingers record Where Insko failed Edward Mor ¬ gan one of the many successful trainer drivers from the Buckeye state managed to win two races Eddie garnered the first race with the 10yearold trotting mare Proud Lassie and guided his recent ac ¬ quisition Rock Win a gray Iowabred pacer to a mildly surprising victory in the tenth and final race raceThe The featured event Monday was an A class trot that saw such accomplished trotters as Siss Brother and Alsyd making their seasonal debut The pair was con ¬ fronted by Elby Hanover one of the few hundredgrand winners stabled here Anna Reed the Wisconsin mare fresh from two successive triumphs in B class Nelson K Lady BrookwoocTFez Oaks and Bob Ly brook Surprisingly enough EJmer Conrads homebred gelding Siss Brother was in ¬ stalled a heavily backed 95 choice The son of Palachuck followed the pacesetting Alsyd to the eighth pole and in a short but hard struggle wrested command from the Minnesota trotter to win handily in 2064 2064It It is hard to explain but nevertheless a fact noticed every season that some horses when changing trainers com ¬ pletely reverse the form shown the pre ¬ vious season Of course nothing is said of those horses who fail to reproduce their winning form but everyone won ¬ ders when horses that could hardly lo ¬ cate the winners circle with the best of racing luck come back the following sea ¬ son and show superior form in their proper class While the pacer Boom town without doubt is the best example for a horse that has improved beyond all normal expectations it was not beyond reason that he could be a better cam ¬ paigner as a fouryearold than he was last year as a threeyearold Last sea ¬ son when trainer Tom Wilburn had Boomtown in his care the Voting Trust gelding was but one of a number of several dozens of threeyearolds of not more than average ability abilityThis This season for ownertrainer Jack Beltz who certainly does not enjoy a bet ¬ ter reputation as a trainer or race driver than the capable horseman from Mississippi Boomtown developed into pne of the best fastclass pacers on the grounds and veri ¬ fied this opinion with the substantial earnings of almost 5000 at this meeting Another example is the eightyearold trotting gelding Dunblane trained and raced by young Gordon Fraser Jr Last year the Darnley gelding won but one out of 27 starts and 210 was about all he could safely go The black coated trotter this season has taken a new lease on life Actually he has never been better than this season seasonOn On Monday night the gelding with young Fraser at the reins accomplished the remarkable feat of winning his fourth straight race and trotted his mile again in an appreciable 208 handily In five starts at this meeting Dunblane has been in the winners circle four times the only horse here to do so with ¬ out interrupton Big Axe and Indiana Chief are the other two fourrace win ¬ ners at this session while he was second in his seasonal debut debutDwayne Dwayne Fletcher who percentagewise leads all drivers competing here scored his 16th victory of the session with his own green pacing gelding Pat Frisco The Frisco Dale son chalked up his third vic ¬ tory in six starts backed down to oddson favoritism The short odds however were thoroughly justified as Pat Frisco had lit ¬ tle difficulty to win going away in 207 In his last start prior to Monday Pat Frisco had been nipped at the wire byi Chuck Counsel the latter timed in 2043
