May 13 The vanguard of trainer Vester Tennessee Wrights stable and those conditioned by Henry Forrest arrived at Washington Park Monday Wright and Forrest currently rank as the number one and number three trainers respec ¬ tively in the nation They join the number two conditioner Wil ¬ liam Hal Bishop on the grounds The Wright and Forrest runners checked in from Churchill Downs where their charges were very successful during that meeting Bishop came from Maryland where he was the top money winning conditioner at the Laurel meeting Among others to arrive recently are J P Sallee who has 18 horses in his public stable including the Heliopolis colt Hill Country winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs last fall fallThe The Englishborn woman trainer Daphne Collings who brought Clermont last years Illinois Owners Handicap winner for Paul Butler of Chicago popular Larry Thompson with over thirty head including Ezgo last years winner of the Clark Handicap owner trainer Louis Schlosser with five Floridabred racers from Ocala Fla Earl Woolridge with twelve includ ¬ ing those owned by Harry L Freyn and Arthur E Mettzwith 17 in his public stable Expected to check in soon are Strother Griffin with a couple of van loads and John Wozneski with nine head headWine Wine List Filly Takes First Stakes StakesEd Ed Carpenter who saddled the winner of the open ¬ ing days Miss Chicago Stakes in the fleet filly Dark Vintage has ten others in his stable here including Belleau Chief who was withdrawn from the Kentucky Derby and has had a nice rest The colt will likely be seen in action before the meeting ends Incidentally Dark Vintage is a daughter of the onetime Chicago land stakes campaigner Wine List who raced in the silks of Hasty House Farms Allie Reuben owner of Hasty Hoiise was present to see her in victory Harry Trotsek who trains the Hasty House horses has 12 head on the grounds at present and when his stable reaches full strength here will have about 40 for the Reuben racing establishment and other owners Dark Vintage unbeaten in three starts was bred by her owner Edward E Voynow of Chicago and is from the mare But Definitely by Bless Me She is eligible for both the Arlington Lassie and Princess Pat Stakes StakesThose Those three speedsters from the Fred Hooper stable Greek Game Alhambra and Olymar are readying up under the training of Chuck Parke All were on the track here this morning and turned in creditable moves One of the best trials this morning was that of the threeyearold A Dragon Killer who was unplaced in the Kentucky Derby The son of Roman Sandal pointing for his first start in this area went six fur ¬ longs in 114 Trainer Charlie Sanborn who has the fleet Olympia fiveyearold Jovial Jove in his barn here departed for Garden State Park and Bel mont Park to look over some of his charges Will re ¬ turn to Washington Park Monday The eightyear old stakes winning sprinter Gay Vista owned by the Triple C Stable arrived with six others in the care of trainer C Calvin W H Bradley got in from Churchill Downs with Dales Delight Gay Citation and nine others othersPierce Pierce to Handle Agoura String StringJ J H Pierce has taken over the training of the Agoura Stock Farm horses here inasmuch as Jimmy Wallace did not make the trip from California The star of the Agoura outfit is Ekaba who was purchased in Chicago last year from S Bryant Ott After having finished third back of Round Table and Iron Liege in the American Derby Ekaba went on to become the champion grass runner of Santa Anita racing Ekaba at last reports was at Golden Gate Fields Trainer Arnold Winick reports the arrival of Al Davelle a two yearold colt owned by Oldham Smith and Moulder all of Tulsa Al Davelle is a halfbrother of the three yearold stakes campaigner Benedicto Vic Sovinski has 18 horses the majority owned by Sunny Blue Farm Lincoln Road threeyearold star of the stable is at Pimlico for the Preakness and is expected here next week weekRobert Robert F Carey managing director of Hawthorne and Jack Johnston vicepresident of Sportsmans Park were among those present on opening day Another visitor was Bob Oswald president of the Thor ¬ oughbred Photo Service Company whose equipment is being used to film the races here Oswald a Califor nian recently returned from the track at Hong Kong where he installed his system Apprentice Richard L Barnett has been granted a 40day extension on his five pounds allowance due to his having been absent from the saddle for that length of time through injuries Barnett made a successful return when he rode Melody Mine and Too Too Fussy to victory open ¬ ing day He shared honors with John Heckmann and Tony Skoronski each of whom also has a pair of winners E E Major Jr is making the engage ¬ ments of jockeys Ovie Scurlock and Joe Navigato is handling the book of jockey Glen Lasswell Open ¬ ing days parimutuel handle was up about 60000 over that of last year and the attendance showed an in ¬ crease of about 900
