SCHEMING FOR ADVANTAGE MARYLAND LEGISLATORS IN A TANGLE AND HOUSE ACTION IS DELAYED. Friends of Racing Trying to Put the Frick Bill Through — Opponents Say Governor Will Not Sign It. Annapolis, ltd., March 22.— The nice track interests won UHthtt round in the house this afternoon by shunting the Hall anti-gambling hill over until tomorrow without a vote, despite the objections of Mr. Hall. The tactics for delay arc similar to those of two yean age aa the same question. When the house met today the race track people were much -up in the air" as to the fate of the Hall anti-gambling lull, lo which the Judiciary committee has attached as an amendment the Frick state racing commission bill, with ,000 a day tax as a revenue provision. Neither side was overconfident, though the race track people said they hoped to put their plan through by a small margin. By the adreeatea of the Hall measure it was said that the governor ■would sign no racing revenue measure and that it would be futile to enact such a law. The answer was that the legislature would be .justified in passing the bill in such a way as to produce a good revenue and leave it to the governor to say whether the state should get the revenue. There was much hustling for votes and pressure was exerted by the race track people to put the Frick bill through. Wires have been pulled from every direction and the names of some of the lead-inn men in the state have been used as backers of the Frick plan in order to block opposition to it. Those who ordinarily take little part in raciag mat ters were busy roandiag up every man they could get and arguing for revenue.
