VIKING HILLS went to the front early, continued to race gamely when headed and, striking the good going near the finish, won narrowly under hard urging. RATTLEBRAIN began rather slowly from the outside, was forced to race wide while making her move but drew up to the leaders near the end and, striking a soft part in the track in the last few yards, was beaten narrowly. MARCLEAVE stumbled approaching the far turn, then raced up to the leaders to take command in the stretch ar.C led to the final twenty yards, where he struck a bad part of the track and faltered. GLAD SANTA closed ground. AMALTHEA raced into a short lead on the inside rounding the stretch turn but was in close quarters in the stretch and his rider, evidently fearing striking one of the temporary barriers, took up. MEMPHIS LASS raced to the front early, continued gamely when headed by MUCKER approaching tha stretch turn, took command in the stretch and, going well to the finish, held CHAZZAN safe. The latter, always well up, came strongly on the outside in the stretch and was gaining slowly. MUCKER tired after-getting to the front and stumbled nearing the finish, but retained third place when STUART PLAID also made a bobble. NOTIFY was in close quarters early and was never dangerous. TASSAJARA moved up gamely approaching the stretch turn, but raced -wide in the last quarter and weakened near the end. BARBARA LEE made up some ground. SNOOKSIE SHOT could not keep up and was badly beaten at the end. Overweight Barbara Lee, 1 pound.
