ASHE PRESIDING STEWARD Signed to Oversee Sport at Ak-Sar-Ben Meeting at Omaha Flood of Stable Applications. OMAHA, Neb., April 22. Since chairman W. H. Schellberg of the Ak-Sar-Ben racing committee announced an increase of 10,000 in purse money for the local meeting, scheduled from May 30, to July 4, so many applications for stable space have been received that racing secretary E. W. Bury has been forced to reject many applications, accepting only the better known stables. The increase of 0,000 provides a total prize- swag of 20,000 for the thirty-one days of racing. Secretary Bury is now visiting tracks at Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, seeking horses. He later will go to Louisville, Ky., and the Aurora track at Chicago. Chairman Schellberg has announced that Dr. Frederic W. Ashe, well known racing official, has been engaged as presiding steward for the Omaha meeting. Dr. Ashe served at the Ak-Sar-Ben track from 1923 to 1927.
