First Suffolk Downs Condition Books Out Minimum Purses for Session Opening Monday to Be ,600 BOSTON, Mass., June 4. — Condition i books covering the opening 10 days of Suffolk Downs 54-day summer meeting, June 11 through August 11, are being distributed i among horsemen. Monday will mark the start of the eleventh season of thoroughbred horse racing at Suffolk Downs and i the management this year will be in the capable hands of Allen J. Wilson, widely f known Boston business man and sportsman. Affiliated with him in the conduct ] of the local track is Edward F. Goode, treasurer. Racing secretary Charles J. McLennan has written a high purse distribution into i his first book, starting with a ,600 minimum purse, and with daily features graduating upwards to ,500. The opening day card will feature the ,000 Governors 5 Handicap at a flat mile, a race which 1 closed on Saturday with a record-breaking number of nominations. Only three of the ! eight races carry the minimum price, however, with the other events valued at ,000. Also programmed during the opening week is the ,000 Bunker Hill Handicap, at one mile for three-year-olds and upward, to be decided on the first Saturday, June 16. Entries for this event will close on Saturday, June 9. The Boston Handicap , at six furlongs, secondary feature to the Bunker Hill, is worth ,500.
