Fifteen Preakness Runnings Staged at Gravesend Course CoursePIMLICO PIMLICO Baltimore Md May 14 Un ¬ til the recent discovery of 15 lost runnings of the race Preakness continuity was in two parts the first running from 1873 to 1893 The second from 1909 to 1947 1947A A chance observation according to Dave Woods Pimlicos director of public rela tions brought to light the fact that the Preakness had been run for 15 consecutive years 1894 to 1908 at the old Gravesend course of the Brooklyn Jockey Club As the race was not renewed at Pimlico during those years and the Gravesend Preakness was a stake for threeyearolds it has been incorporated into the roster of renewals of the famous Maryland Jockey Club fixture As contemporary records of the Maryland Jockey Club were destroyed by fire the true explanation for the shifting of the stake to Gravesend islost
