Hill Prince Works Well; May Be Withers Starter Your Host Also in Good Trial; No Decision on Riders for Two BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. J., N. Y., May 11. — Hill Prince just about worked himself into a place in the starting field for Saturdays 5,000 Withers Mile, trainer J. H. "Casey" Hayes said today. "I was just going to gallop him," Hayes said of C. T. Chenerys colt, "but he felt so good that I went around to meet him on my pony and yelled at the boy to let him run the last three-eighths. He went so well, I figure I just about have to run him." Daily Racing Form dockers caught the son of Princequillo in :36 on the training track. "You know its going to take a lot of races to make up for the 6,000 we missed on Saturday," Hayes added, "and it doesnt look like therell be a very big field for the Withers." The beaten Derby favorite, Your Host, had his early foot hi a trial this morning, too, going five furlongs in 1:00%. The Goetz colt was well in hand throughout. Hays decision to start Hill Prince in the Withers may necessitate some reshuffling of jockeys. Eddie Arcaro, who has been riding the colt all season, including his second to Middleground in the Derby, agreed to ride William Goetz Your Host in the Withers, but no one is in a position to state just how binding that agreement is, was available for a statement today. "Bones" LaBoyne, Arcaros agent, said that Hayes had assured Goetz the day before yesterday that Hill Prince would not start in the Withers and that the engagement to ride Your Host had been made with that understanding. It seems probable that Arcaro will ride Hill Prince, if he starts, with Eric Guerin getting the mount jm Your Host. Max Hirsch, who saddled King Ranchs Middleground for his Derby triumph, said today that he had not yet made up his mind whether or not to start the Bold Venture colt in the Withers. Reminded that entries close tomorrow, Hirsch grunted, "I cant make up my mind in 20 minutes." Preston Burch is very doubtful about starting either Greek Ship or Sunglow for Mrs. Dodge Sloane. The other probables are Mrs. Andy Schuttingers Ferd, Brandywine Stables Greek Song, George D. Wideners Lights Up and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords* Suleiman or Post Card.
