Long Awarded to Browns PITTSBURGH, Pa., June 1 UP.— National League president Ford Frick notified the Pittsburgh Pirates that Dale Long, first baseman recently released, has been awarded to the St. Louis Browns. The Pirates had experimented with making Long into a left-handed catcher, but let him go to make room for Jack, Maguire, outfielder acquired from the Giants.
