NOTES OF THE TURF. J. J. Folhmsbee, the California turfman, has been confined to ids room for several days with gastritis. Jockey Emmett Loague, who is now riding at Oakland, is a grandson of ex-Mayor Loague,. of Memphis. Louis Tauber, former trainer for John W. Schorr, Is at Lexington to look over some two-year-olds for a New York turfman. William Gersts three-year-old colt, Romola, by Lamplighter Swlftsure, was found dead In his stall at Nashville this morning. Joe Suubert, known to racegoers as "Papa Joe," and a character around the tracks for many years, died last week at his home in Baltimore. R. L. Baker has been elected vice-president of the Phoenix National Bank at Lexington, Ky., to succeed his deceased partner, B. Smith Gentry. The reform leaders at Los Angeles now say they wi41 petition for a special election in the hope of closing Ascot Park by a vote of the people. G rover Hughes, of Lexington, Ky., has purchased from John H. Morris, Woodbum Farm, the two-year-old bay colt by Trentols Eltra, by Springbok.
