DOES NOT EXPECT A DIVISION OF DATES. Bennett Says Condon and Stuart Will Insist on Thirty Days Straight at Oaklawn. .Memphis, Tenn., January 30. "If there is a spring meeting at Essex Park," said George C. Bennett, who has just returned from a two weeks visit to Hot Springs, "It is my impression that it will not lie opened until after Oaklawn Park closes a meeting of thirty days which will open on February 17. Sheriff Williams wants to see the tracks have an even break and he has proposed a committee meeting to discuss the question of a division- of the dates, but I am of the opinion that Dan Stuart and John Condon will refuse to show any quarter to the Essex Park people and I do not believe that Sheriff Williams will interfere when they take this stand. The Essex Park people, I was told at Hot Springs, have no money, that is. not enough to hold a meeting, and unless the American Turf Association gives the club financial support, I do not believe they will have much use for dates. However, the matter will be fully determined in the course of the next ten days." Business Men Will not Interfere. Hot Springs, Ark., January 10. Secretary Robert R. McRoberts of the Hot Springs Jockey Club addressed the executive committee of the Business Mens League tonight In an effort to have that organization intervene for an equal division of tiie racing dates at the two local tracks. Secretary Cooley said after the meeting: "Mr. McRoberts was heard through courtesy. The League will not grant his apjieal. It is not the province of the League to interfere in the troubles of the turf." Persons well informed as to the local situation tonight say that under Its present management Essex Park is down and out and that the possibilities of a meeting next spring are decidedly remote.
