RACING FLOURISHES IN BRAZIL. General Towncs of Virginia, who spent live years In Brazil as United States consul, nays that racing In carried on at Rio de Janeiro on a great scale. There are live racecourses In or near the city, which has a population of nearly a million and on Sunday, the great day of the week, the attendance Is very large. "You can ascend a mountain In the center of the city 3,500 feet, high anil from the summit you can see the live racecourses, said the General, "and when racing Is going on you can see the horses nuiiilng."
