FL01UL KING WINS EASILY. GARDNERS COLT GETS AWAY IN THE LEAD AND IS NEVER HEADED. John Carroll Has a Tussle to Beat St. Joseph Jockey Farrow is Suspended A Convict is Badly Injured. New Orleans, January :tl. Evenly balanced fields went to the- post in the seven races at City Iark today and Interestslng contests resulted. In the closing race Marry Gardners high class sprinter Tloral Kins, probably the fastest horse in the west today, was making his tlrst appearance in public since the summer meeting at Latonia last fall. Floral King was meeting among others Ed Corrigans crack colt John Carroll. The notion that Floral King might possibly not be screwed up to a bruising contest, caused Hie Corrigan horse to lie heavily linefeed, his odds being forced from 7 to ." to even money, while the price against Floral King receded from 7 to 10 to evens at post time. Floral King, always a pnpnlar horse with Crescent City race--goers, was given a great ovation when lie trotted past the stand on his way to the post. Nleol had the mount and with bis usual alertness succeeded in getting the best of the start. When the barrier went up Floral King was off running and before they had gone a furlong he had n winning lead over his opponents. Xicol sat still and at no time during the running was the result in doubt. The pace was terrific, the first three furlongs being run in Mg and the half mile in 47J. Xicol had Floral King John Carroll just succeeded in poking his nose in front of St. Joseph in the last stride. Merllngo, winner of the fourth race, was bid up by J. W. Rurttsheell 00 over his entered price of 00. but was iHinght in by his owner, T. M. Cas-sldy. Jockey Farrow, who had the mount on Doctor Dan, was suspended for two weeks by the judges for crossing over in front of his opponents on the turn into the homestretch. In the niix-up which occurred, Immortelle, the favorite, was thrown against the inside fence and knocked out of the running. A Convict broke down during the running of the fifth race, tearing the muscles and sinews from his ankle joint. Koerner pulled up and dismounted. The horse will probably have to be destroyed. If he ever races again it will lie little short of a miracle.
