Canejo, sud-1 denly improved, steadily improved her position on her own courage, caught the leaders tiring in the stretch and won off. Blackthorn, which also found his speed quickly, was in close attendance on the pacemaker to the stretch, where lie got into an apparently safe lead and then suddenly succumbed to the winner. Jerry Hunt made the running for seven furlongs before he tired and was an easy third. Ripper, visibly improved, may yet make good. It was too short for Expedient, which finished with his customary rush. Dr. Shorb tired early. W. B. Gates was sore and unable to raise a respectable gallop. Nine Spot began slowly, but made up a lot of ground throughout and, finishing with an irresistible rush, caught and passed the leaders right at the end. Jackfull forced a stiff pace almost to the last stride,- where he tired after swerving to the inside. Corrigan, always in forward contention, journeyed throughout in the worst going and, despite repeated stumbling at the end, could have won but for being pinned In next to the rail and ran a very game race. Briers, nearly left, closed a considerable gap. Orchan showed good speed for a half mile and then dropped hopelessly to the rear. Throw his race out. Corrected weights Orchan, 109. St. George Jr., on the outside, secured a flying start and, setting the pace throughout, came awav with a long lead in the stretch, but tired aud only just lasted the journey. Soufriere. always on the inside in deep going and getting away slowly, was apparently outpaced badly iu the early running, then came along in the stretch with a belated challenge, not quite getting up. Bolomau, practically left standing at the post, closed an immense gap and must have been best. Phalanx tired after early forward contention and is out of place in sprints. Salable went a good half mile. St. Francis quit after a strenuous" effort to outpace the win-t ntr for the first five furlongs. Delagoa ran poorly. Overweights Delagoa, 3 pounds; Soufriere, 1.
