ORCHANS RACE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. San Francisco. Cal., February 23. The stewards at Oakland have started an inquiry into todays poor showing of Orclian in the fifth race won by Nine Spot. Harry Stover and jockey Loague, respectively owner and rider of the former Darnell horse, were called upon for an explanation. Presiding steward E. C. Hopper stated that the inquiry will be continued and the result announced tomorrow. The same gentleman also remarked that C. C. Slc-Cafferty had complained of unfair treatment by the press, for which lie anil his colleagues were unable to afford him any relief. A heavy track under clear skies and an interesting card, brought the usual big crowd to the racetrack tliis afternoon. Three odds-on favorites won right off the reel, then a couple of outsiders and finally the days good sport wound up with another, but lightly supported, favorite in St. George Jr. In this race Boloman, all but left at the post, ran a sensational race, carrying a big wager for his owner, 1. S. Fountain. m Good Luck, .Take Sanders and Ilammeraway of. the TIchenor string will shortly return to Los Angeles. Sir Edward recently picked up a nail while leing driven to a buggy and was incapacitated from starting in the Derby. Frank Kelly has been relieved from his duties as trainer for Dr. J. Grant Lyman and the horses in the string have been turned over to "Dick" Williams. The latter announced his intention of shipping his stable to Washington as soon as he can secure horse cars.
