SHOWS HIS HEELS TO DERBY CANDIDATES. St. Joseph Wins the Feature at City Park, Defeating Monterey Romanelli Is Fined. New Orleans, La., March S. The victory of M. .7. Dalys St. Joseph in the iliird race at City Park today placed that youngster in" the limelight among Derby possibilities. Carrying 119 pounds and ridden by J. Daly, he beat four other Derby eligibles, winning by a neck from Monterey, favorite in the betting and ridden by Nicol. The hitters preference for heavy going was responsible for the support given him. Tanibeau was third and Edward Cor-rigans Kargut last, beaten oil by Nonie Lucille. Kargtit sprawled all over the track. Goldic and Creel, which are Mr. Corrigans candidates for the Kentucky Derby, were beaten in their respective races. On complaint of C. S. Wilson, owner of Bisipie, Iole was disqualified from second money in a race in which she beat out Bisque on March 3. Previous, to the race iu question Iole was sold by Jenkins Brothers to T. B. and P. A. Morris. Apprentice allowance had been claimed for Iole and she was ridden by Farrow, an apprentice under contract to Jenkins Brothers. Tender the recent ruling of ihe American Turf Association, Iole was not entitled to the live pounds, hence the disqualification. Goma, which started in the first race; ran in the colors of S. II. Kunz, who purchased her Wednesday night froin E. Corrigan for 00. Turrando hail been placed on the schooling list and was ineligible to start. Albert Simons tried to banter Mike Daly into making a wager previous to the running of the third race. Daly would not accept the Let, but offered a wager of ,000 that St. Joseph could beat Monterey, same distance and weight, over a fast track. Jockey Romanelli was lined 0 by the judges for a slovenly finish on Colonel White in the seventh race. Twenty yards from the winning mark when Colonel White had third place at his mercy, Romanelli stopped riding and allowed Bellindian to beat him out.
