TOM MANKINS IS DISQUALIFIED FOR FOUL. Pat Bulger Improves With a Change In Riders New Orleans Racing News And Gossip. New Orleans, La., March 22. A change In riders worked wonders with Pat Bulger at City Park this afternoon. A few days ago, witli D. Hall in the saddle, this horse seemed unable to raise a gallop. Today witli jockey Dealy as pilot he showed a rare turn of speed, uiakhig a runaway affair of the seven furlongs condition race and winning in a common canter by five lengths after being eased up in the final sixteenth. Five favorites won and jockey Dave Nicol rode four of the winners. The attendance was good and speculation brisk. At the earnest request of President Heasllp and other officers of the New Orleans Jocky Club, Mars Cassidy delayed his departure for Bennings until tonight, Richard Divyer arrived from Los Angeles tonight and will do the starting at City Park tomorrow. A carload of horses left New Orlcaus this afternoon for the City of Mexico. Two more carloads will leave before the. local racing season closes. Will Wallace was about this morning for the first time since his illness of several weeks ago. Wallace Is steadily improving and will be able to go to Memphis by April 15. The promising steeplechaser Cuslus bowed a tendon in the cross-country race yesterday. He will be fired and turned out until next fall. Gold Bell and Schoolmaster pulled up lame In their races at City Park this afternoon and will probably have to be thrown out of training. The investigation in connection with the Judge Nolan race of several days ago is still on, but as yet no otlieial action has been taken. Torn Mankins, a greatly improved horse, finished first in the third race at the old track this afternoon, but was disqualified for fouling Third Alarm. It was a six furlongs dash, with Vau Ness making the early pace at a terrific clip, so that when the stretch was reached he not only had his opponents dizzy, but was tiring himself. Tom Mankins had been closest to Iiiin all the way and outlasted him at the finish, but McGee could not keep the horse straight and he swerved to the inside rail, striking Third Alarm and crowding him off his stride. This enabled Van Ness to hold second place and when Tom Mankins was disqualified he got the race. L. Smith came in for a lot of criticism for his ride on Macy Jr. in the feature race. In a four horse field he had his mount cut- off three or four times. 4 Gold Rose, winner of the first race, equalled the track record for 5 1-2 furlongs, 1:052. Cashier, winner of the fourth race, was sold by Clint Burnett to Mrs. M. C. Lyles just before the race and ran in her interests.
