HEAVY SNOW RETARDS WORK AT BENNINGS. List of tho Two-year-olds in the Bradley, Belmont and McLaughlin Stables. Washington, D. C, March 22. These are busy lays at Beuuings, the arrival and quartering of horses for the meeting whicli is to open Monday making rather more of the activity than track exercise, for the heavy snow storm of Sunday night and Monday has precluded the latter. Some have galloped over the snow these past three days, but the majority of the trainers have been satisfied with work under the sheds. The sun, however, is fast driving away the snow and the forecaster promises good weather ere the opening. The" big string of "Pa" Bradley from Wilcox Wharf, Va., John E. Maddens consignment from Hamburg Place in Kentucky, August Belmonts lot from Garnet, South Carolina, and James McLaughlins string from Gravcsend are the arrivals whittli have attracted most attention since the coming of the snow. The Bradley string numbers twenty-two and is in charge of A. H. Bradley, nephew of the owner, lie has here Henry Zitt, 7; Al Casey, 4; Max Aron, 4, and the three-year-olds Henry Waring, Elton Weaver, Lady Stewart, Away, Waddell II., Nonsense, Baby Willie, W. W. Peiree, Gardner Tyler, Dixie Andrews and Annie Schallcr. Of these Away was badly cut down at Windsor last season after she had won a record-breaking race at Toronto at nIx furlongs. The lilly Is all right now and looks ready to race. Eight two-year-olds are in the Bradley string, :mi follows: Private Stewart, ch. e. by Aloha Mrs. Stuart. llanoway, ch. g. by Hampshire Panway. Kiuiuolu, br. f, by Aloha Eminence. Wist, blk. f, by Hampshire Wag. Sam Anderson, b. g, by Aloha Annie L. West Over, br. c, by Aloha Sue B. Greenways Best, br. c, by Aloha Virgie. Bush Hill, ch. c, by Hampshire Julia Waddell. Of these Eminola, the sister to Peter Paul and West Over, the half brother to Boney Boy, are entered in the two-year-old stakes here. Both are racy looking, and so is Greenways Best, a full Brother to Robert Waddull. Nonsense, the three-year-old coft by Giganteum Anisette, a halt brother to that good western performer, Albulu, which won so many races for Ban Lainasney, Is the biggest horse in the stable. In this he takes, after his ire. Peter Paul has been ordered back from New Orleans and will be here the latter part of the week. AH of Bradleys horses are in fine health and well forward in condition. . John Whalen struck an uulueky spell of weather in which to bring the Uelmont siring of sixteen hcrses from the mild Carolina cotton belt to this unlooked for .arctic visitation of the district. But the bunch was soon quartered in stable 20, that had been specially prepared for their coming and whicli Is one of he tightest and warmest barns at the track. Lord of the Vale heads the Belmont party and the big six-year-old lias wintered in excellent form at Garnet, showing that age has not yet placed him in the "sere and yellow leaf" class. Mount Henry, the four-year-old, and the three-year-olds Lucky, Bivouac and Hauteur all show the good effects of their winter in the south, the last named English-bred colt by Ladas being a particularly fine horse. Eleven two-year-olds give trainer Whalen a strong hand in that division. The youngsters arc: Brookman, br. g, by Octagon St. Bridget. Curriculum, blk. g, by Hastings Carlotta. Okenite. ch. g. by Hastings Orienta. Fond du Lac, b. g, by Don de Oro Fond Hopes. Wild Dance, b. g, by Hastings La Danseuse. Shackle, b. g, by Hastings Serairamis. Lady Vincent, b. f, by St. Blaise Lady Violet. Nancy, b. f, by Hastings Nineveh. Ransom, ch. f, by Henry of Navarre Lady Ilayon. Velocity, b. f. by Henry of Navarre-Lady Viola. Woodwitch, ch. f, by Octagon Woodvine. Of these Okenite, Curriculum and Fond du Lac are entered in the two-year-old stakes here. All of these youngsters are growthy and well developed and look as if they have not been idle at Garnet. James McLaughlin brought thirteen horses from Gravesend and got five more here that Billy Garth had been wintering for him at Charlottesville, making eighteen now in his barn, the same one he had last fall, next to the paddock. Race King heads the bunch, accompanied by Jack McKeon, the four-year-old Blue Coat, the three-year-olds Kuro, Paloro, The Poet and High Brush. While in the Garth addition Old Guard and Society Bud swell the three-year-old division to a half dozen. The McLaughlin two-year-olds number nine: The Galloper, ch. g, by Golden Garter Fascination III. Moccasin, b. g. by Meadowthorpe Lady Moccasin. Mode, ch. f, by Sir Modred Jennie Riley. Sunburst, b. f, by Peep oDay Smirr. Miss Dixon, br. f, by Sir Dixon Miss Annie. Prince Paul, b. c, by Gerolsteln Salvation, jviijje the two-year-olds turned over- by". Garth are Speed Queen, Sure Foot and Campaigner. The McLaughlin string and also those he received from Billy Garth, all show forward condition, bearing out the reports of the opeu winter up north. Race King lias let down and furnished so that he locks a larger horse than he was last year and seems sound as the proverbial bell. Certainly on looks the Bennings trainers have nothing on the McLaughlin lot as far as condition goes. In the words of this well known owner-trainer, they have not missed a weeks work all winter. Woolgatherer the steeplechaser, has been sold out of the Phelan stable to Courtland H. Smith. The latter will use him for a saddle horse, as since his tumble last fall Woolgatherer has been an unsatisfactory training proposition. Qrhe other horses in this stable Ben Crockett, Andy Williams, Howard Lewis and Widows Mite-are going right along and-doing all that Is -asked of them. So, too, is Young Henry, whose main work, however, is taken between the shafts in harness. The good colt Rudy, in the Ilayman stable, has pneumonia and his recovery Is doubtful. Rudy was sick at Hot Springs and when the stable arrived here pneumonia developed. His loss will weaken the two-year-old department of the Haymau stable. Rudy is by Yankee Isis and is the first of the get of the Futurity winner of 1001 to appear under racing colors. Inflexible has been stopped in his training and goes back to Mr. Oxnards farm in Virginia.
