WHICH WILL IT BE, WALK OR STANDI Horsemen who have seen Slars Cassidys good work at the barrier here this winter are wondering whether the Jockey Club is going to permit him to follow his own methods in New York this season, or whether the powers that be will insist upon the standing start, as they did last year. This winter Sir. Cassidy has followed the system of lining them up about 100 yards from the barrier and bring them up on a walk. If they were all straight in line and moving when they reached the barrier, then he would spring It, and they would be oft without any delay whatever. If, however, the line was broken up he would, of course, halt the field and reform them,-breaking them to a standing start. The boys got so well into the way of lining up and coming on- together, however, that he .got. a. siuv prisingly large percentage of comparatively perfect starts at the first dash. The system lias proved so completely satisfactory that it will lie surprising If he is not permitted to follow it in the east, and the horse owners who nice there are earnestly hoping the stewards will let him follow the same method-this year.
