DARING AND BEDFORD IN A CLOSE FINISH. Judges Hang Out Darings Number Marlman Loses Double Valets Appear in Uniform. Cincinnati, 0., June 21. The closest finish of the meeting at Latonia came today in the third race. Bedford, the colt recently claimed by C. C. Mc-Cafferty, showed a brilliant turn of speed, leading his company at a fast pace until right at the end where he tired and Daring got to him. Many of the spectators did not believe that Daring quite got up, but the judges, who "are in the. best position to neparale the liorses in a close fit, thought differently and gave the race to L. Jones colt. After G. H Marlmans Double had won the last race, C. C, McCafferty bid him up from 00 t- 00 and got him. J. U. Strode has decided to ship Harry Stephens to New York where he will be raced.- Word was received -today from Louisville to the effect that Willis McCullqugh, a well known" turf character, had died suddenly. The recent rule promulgated by the American Turf Association, requiring valets to wear uniforms, .was-put into effect today. Tlie uniforms consisted of a khaki coat and blue cap. Uncle Henry was claimed out of yesterday s last race by U. L. Fitzgerald, owner of Lansdown. Jockey Preston was fined 5 by the starter Tor disobedience at the post. . J. C. Milam has decided to ship Convolo and Miss Bertha to Lexington to be turned out.
