Ike made the early running and stood the closing drive gamely and is much improved. Oro refused after going half the journey well. Red Friar maintained close pursuit of the pacemaker and, suddenly and simultaneously with Misa Rillle, moved up and into the lead at the half and to Martins vigorous finish was due his head victory over Miss Rillie. Tlie latter was also close up in the early running, may have Uia4e her, run prematurely and only lost out through slight crowding and a weak finish through the final sixteenth. - Lancastrian, forced to maHe the running hard held, allowed the other two to pass him -on the backstretch and was never quite able to get up afterwards. Mentha broke striding on the inside, set a terrific pace throughout and drew away into a clear lead in the last furlong, but was suddenly brought to a mild drive by Victoria B.s challenge. The latter, away poorly iuid far in the rear for half the journey, moved up on the outside witli extraordinary speed on the last turn and, in a whirlwind finish, failed to get up, putting up a grand effort. Yankee Girl maintained a forward position to the half, where she was shuttled back, but came again on the inside, saving ground and finishing fast In a very game effort. Glamor suffered from crowding at the start, made up ground steadily and was forced wide on the hist turn, momentarily appeared like having a chance to head the winner in the stretch, but tired badly in the closing drive. Clare Russell, pocketed on the Inside, maintained a goo1 position to the stretch, where she tired and was unable to concede the weight.- Surveillance, a grand looker, developed brilliant speed and is very promising, but was short. First Premium had a lucky start on the outside and clear sailing, was slightly outrun early, but maintained a position within striking distance, finally came very wide on the last turn ami won with plenty In hand. Tiptoe raced after the leaders on the backstretch, the pace being terrific, joined issue with Lady Anne on the far turn and, racing her to defeat, came away like a flash when straightened for home and, after being badly interfered with by Handzarra, earned second place and probably was best. Lady Anne cut up badly at the post, set a tremendous pace and tired In the last quarter, possibly due to the cuppy inside going. Handzarra was ridden a waiting race, turned for home on the outside, went wide and carried First Premium with her and shut off Tiptoe, but tired at the end. Monet, outpaced early, closed up very fast in the last quarter. Rubric closed an immense gap in the last half and is very good. Consistent, virtually left, also closed an immense early gap and ran a remarkable race. La borciere probably was short. Ocean Spray indulged the early pacemaker with the lead to the half, after which she ran to the front and won off cantering. Hera got away poorly and closed an early gap, maintained nearest pursuit of the winner in the last half and stood a game drive to save second place. McKittredge, a slow beginner, had a bad position on the extreme outside, was carried hopelessly wide on the first turn, then went to the Inside, where he was forced to pull up repeatedly, closed up like a cyclone in the last quarter, but wants a small field and longer race. Park Row Improved his position in the last half and finished a fast going fourth. Royal Scot finished well up under a poor ride. Givonnl Balerio showed his usual speed, but is a pronounced non-stayer. Left displayed superior early speed and is worth watching. Fatinitza has worked well and can probably do better, but was sore in her preliminary.
