COTTONTOWN AGAIN DEFEATS ALMA DUFOUR. Snowdrift Wins the Steeplechase McCafferty Loses Ralbert Holtman Disciplines Jockeys. Cincinnati, 0., July 18. That Cotton.town is one of the best handicap horses now performing in the west was shown today. He conceded weight by the scale to Alma Dufour and beat her easily at a mile, in l:41j. It was fast time, the track considered. Cottontown was a hot favorite. - This was on account of his easy defeat of the Corrlgan mare a few days ago and because the track was in his favor. It was too dead and lumpy to suit Alma Dufour. Sea Mate, at 60 to 1 and beaten a head in a hard drive in the opening race, was much the best and, under intelligent handling, would have won. Gaddy, who rode Snowdrift, came near throwing away the purse in the steeplechase. He eased her up permitting Sobell, on Eneda, to steal up. Gaddy had to do his utmost to stall off the challenge and win by a half length. Frank Mc was a strong contender and had he not swerved Into the fence when going over the hurdle in the stretch, might have won. Gould sulked and ran out at the next to the last jump in the field. P. S. Roberts, who came here from Denver with a few horses, has shipped Silver Heels to Fort Erie. C. C. McCafferty bid up Nonie Lucille to ,400, an advance of 400 over her entered price. She was retained. In retaliation McBrayer Moore claimed Ralbert for ,000 and sold him later to J. C. Milam for ,200. Eneda was badly cut on the front tendon In the steeplechase and it was necessary for the veterinarian to sew the cut up. Starter Holtman had to discipline several of the riders today. He suspended J. Russell for six days and fined Aubuchon and B. Miller 0 each for misbehavior at the post.
