The grandstand Indulged In a continual round of hand-clapping for the popular Jockey Idol during the parade to the post and the fielders cheered themselves hoarse. The lightweight rider, however, could do no better than a good second to the 100 to 1 shot Nigger Mike. Three supposed factors In the race Moyea, Smiling Tom and Pierrot were removed by crowding at the start and Waterbury, the grand looking half brother to Kenllworth and Old England, the most highly considered, simply qualified for some stake race later on. He ran green, apparently, his jockey Shaw, having to take him up repeatedly to keep him from running Into horses. The steeplechase that followed was a chapter of accidents and incidents that kept the crowd on their feet yelling and cheering from start to finish. Billy Lakelands big and long-striding youngster pulled up lame as did McCarter, but In a lesser degree. Angler, the quondam selling plater was in his rightful element today. The brilliant Sir Dixon four-year-old was not extended to dispose of the handicap horses opposed to him in the fifth race.
