WILL OPEN ON LABOR DAY. THIRTY DAYS MEETING AT DOUGLAS PARK EXPECTED TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 3. Latonia Meeting To Be Extended to September 1 Nathanson to Be Secretary at Louisville Track A. T. A. Grants Many Licenses. Cincinnati, O., July 23. It has riot been so stated by any officials of either the American Turf Association or the Western Jockey Club, but it is quite certain that it has been agreed that the present meeting at Latonia will be extended to Saturday, September 1, and that Douglas Park will open in Louisvile on Monday, September 3, Labor Day, for a meeting of thirty days. A. W. Hamilton will be the presiding Judge at Douglas Park and Martin Nathanson will fill the position of secretary. The other officials wil be announced after the August meeting of the Western Jockey Club. Mr. Nathanson will again fill the office of secretary at the old track in New Orleans. A. B. Dade will do the starting there and Messrs. Frank Bryan and Clarence McDowell will fill their usual positions in the judges stand. D. H. Barnes, one of the signers to the agreement dividing the dates at New Orleans next winter, arrived from New York today. He said that tha meeting of the parties to the transaction was entirely harmonious. The choice for opening was decided by flipping a coin. Secretary McAllister, of the American1 Turf Association, says the license committee of that body met today and passed upon the application of numerous trainers and jockeys. More than one hundred were granted licenses. The application cf Jockey Treubel was denied-artdthatof Jockey W. Buchanan was passed for future action. The. application of Frank Ferrell, who was mixed up with D. Hall and Adkins in the Davis imbroglio three years ago in California, was also referred for future action. The attendance and sport at Latonia today was good. In the steeplechase, however, the usual mishaps attended the running. Arc Light upset calculations by winning in the easiest manner possible-Snowdrift ran out of the course. Charawind. at the last obstacle, stepped into a hole and broke down. Dalesman had come to grief early. Tbeie was little contention on the part of Modrodlaw in the final drive and Subador got second place in easy style. Sister Frances, rated as one of the best sprinters in the west, made her farewell appearance here prior to her shipment to Saratoga and ran a sparkling race, winning impressively from the much-improved Meadowbreeze. Nonle Lucille found her speed today and, stranger, still, maintained it for the six furlong trip with consummate ease, winning as his rider pleased. She ran with a burr on today and maybe this explains her improved showing. C. C. McCafferty became her owner after her victory by bidding 00 more than her entered price of ,200. James Arthur was deprived of a purse and probably missed landing a good sized bet in tie closing1 race because of "Hold-on Jimmys" failure to let go of Lady Charades head when the barrier was released. The filly was much the best and with an equal start would have won off by herself. Jockey George Wilkerson, who is related to Tommy Griffin, arrived here today and will try to secure mounts. He weighs at present about 107.
