HAVANA TRACK IS NEARLY COMPLETED. New York, July 25. Secretary Hernandez of the Cuba Jockey Club, Is here in the Interest of the meeting which will be opened at the new track near Havana in December. He will remain until after the meeting at Saratoga. "The building of the plant is rapidly approaching completion," said Mr. Hernandez, "and 1 think It will be one of the handsomest, although, of ccurse, not one of the largest, on this side of the Atlantic. I think Its location could not be more nearly perfect. It Is exactly eighteen miles from the heart of Havana, and Is reached by trolley lines. The plant is at the foot of a little range of hills, or a sort of plateau, and is near a pretty little village, which promises to become popular as a resort, "We have 175 acres, and were enabled to get the land cheap from our treasurer. He bought it ten years ago, and notwithstanding the value has greatly increased since then, he let the club have It for the figure at which he bought it. There is little grading to be done, and the draining facilities will be provided with little trouble or expense. "The track is a mile and a quarter in extent and we have ample room for chutes and extensions should we find that they are necessary. Work on the buildings, the grandstand, clubhouse, paddock, jockeys quarters and stables has been under way for some time, and I think the turfmen who go there from this country will be surprised at the elaborate scale on which we have started. "We have every reason to believe that we will be successful if we can get the co-operation of the horsemen of this" country. Several of your most prominent and widely known owners were in Havana last winter, and I talked with them regarding the outlook for racing there. They all agreed it was an idea which would meet with encouragement, and that if the excellence of the climate and the pleasure of a winter meeting there could once be demonstrated we need have no fears for the future."
