MEADOWBREEZE ONLY WINNING FAVORITE. Steeplechase a Farce Fred Cook to Go East Nicol Will Ride at Saratoga. Cincinnati, O., Augnst C. Followers of form nnd favorites had many surprises at Latonia today. Meadowbrecze, in the condition race, the feature of the card, was the only one to come to the relief of the talent. His victory was not clean cut and with better handling, Wee Lass would have triumphed over him. The steeplechase was a farce. Only two of the six starters covered the course without mishap. Class Leader, unextended, led all the way and came home a snug winner lefore the favorite nnd badly ridden Dalesman. Solon, which had been accorded heavy support, was a strong contender until he bolted at the third fence. Billy Wake and Profitable also ran out. This left the race between Class Leader, Dalesman and nare-foot and they would have finished in this order but for the fact that the latter bled, enabling Billy Wake, which had resumed the course, to overhaul him and get third money., Fred Cook contemplates departure from here next Saturday.
