NEALON WINS THE DOLPHIN. BUNS A GAME BACE AND BEATS COTTONTOWN BY A NARROW MARGIN. Fountainblue Triumphs in the Partridge Stakes and Owner Brady Collapses Pat Civill Gets We a for ,500 Anna Hay Graduates. New York, September 4. Superb racing weather ami a line card brought a big crowd to Sheepshead Bay race course this afternoon. There were two valuable stake fixtures down for decision the Dolphin, for three-year-olds, and the Partridge, for two-year-olds, over the grass course. Fountainblue won the Partridge, making his first appearance since he was sold at Brighton Beach to "Diamond Jim" Brady for 3,000, but the race was deprived of much interest by the withdrawal of De Mund. Victory after this was conceded to Fountainblue. He started at prohibitive odds and won in a truly convincing manner. Tho highly-tried Keene colt, Vox Populi, In receipt of a ten pounds weight concession, was a distant runner-up. The three-year-old stake, at a mile and a furlong that followed, far overshadowed the Partridge In importance and developed Into the heaviest betting affair of the day. Two colts of supposed high class, In Cottontown and Athlete, the former a big celebrity in the west, practically monopolized the betting, the others being entirely ignored. To those who had noted Nealons brilliant race over the grass with such flyers as Glnette and Kiamesha, both in receipt of age allowances and actual weight, the success of Barney Schreibers gallant colt was not .unexpected, The. stable commission was ,500 distributed across the board nt odds of 15, 3,- and 1. Nealon, always in forward contention, beat Cotton-town after a terrific stretch struggle, In which the grand-looking Sain colt displayed brilliauf qualities of speed aud stamina at the end of the long aud trying journey. Sheer gameness won out for the Missouri-bred racer; yet he was at all times skillfully and vigorously ridden. IJaul J. Eaineys two-year-old filly Anna May graduated in the first race. It was her tenth effort. She was a strongly backed first choice and ridden by Radtke into an easy victory. J. A. Drakes Wes easily captured the mile selling in a big field. The unlucky Inverness gelding was always under a pull and won with ridiculous ease from the improving Orly. P. M. Civill bid up the winner, which was entered for ,000, to ,500. Trainer Wishard let hiiu have him at that .figure. Shot Gun ran to his very best form with a wonderful achievement in the sprint handicap and Ostrich spreadeagled. a fast band of opponents in the closing race-at a mile and -a sixteenth over the grass course. It was rumored that "Diamond Jim" Brady collapsed during the running of the Partridge Stakes, in which his great colt Fountainblue was the victor, lie, neglected his usual practice of hiding in the rear of the grandstand whenever any of his horses take part in races.
