GIDEON HAS NO INTENTION OP RETIRING. New York, September 4. The- failure of David Gideon to put in an appearance during the meeting at Saratoga gave rise to the rumor that the former master of Holmdel Stud had decided to abandon the turf. This story was denied by Mr. Gideon at Sheepshead Bay. He says he has no intention of giving up racing, as he has been on the turf for thirty years and could not if be desired, give it up. "I am in raciug to stay as long as I live. I did not visit the Saratoga meetlug because I needed a rest," he said. "It is hard work to try to win with a stable of bad horses, and that Is what I have been doing this year. "Unless you have winners," he continued, "the game is discouraging. I have had my share of success. Three Futurity winners have been sent to the post out of my stable. But getting up at four oclock in the morning to look after a stable of horses which at present does not contain good material is more than I care to do now. I shall buy horses when I see any that take my fancy and put them Into the hands of some good trainer. I own thirty-five brood mares and two stallions, Little Saint and Stanhope. Mr. Croker owned both of these horses at one time. "Racing Is a rich mans sport and no one but a millionaire can afford to refuse a good price for a developed stake winner. The racetracks have, however, all the best of it, and if I had put Into stocks the money that I put into a breeding farm and stallions aud mares fifteen years ago I would be very much better off today."
