RUMORED SALE OF ELECTIONEER FOB 5,000. New York, September 4. J. B. Brady, Andrew Miller and E. R. Thomas were bidding against each other In the clubhouse at Sheepshead Bay this afternoon for the possession of Electioneer, and it is rumored tonight that Billy Lakeland has sold him to one of the trio for 5,000. -Just after Electioneer was beaten in his first start at Brighton Beach, July 13, by McCarter, J. B. Brady and H. K. Knapp asked Billy Lakeland if he would part with the son of Voter for 5,000. lie said he would not, and on being asked for his price said that the colt could be bought for 0,000. Messrs. Brady and Knapp thought the figure too high and the deal was not made. "Electioneer is not extensively engaged next season, but there are still a number of valuable stakes in which I can enter him," said his owner after his victory in the Autumn Maiden Stakes. "This 1 will do, as I believe he will go any distance. He Inherits speed from his sire, Voter, and his dam, Quesal. The latter was a sturdy mare of great courage, and from her his endurance traces. Like Quesal he Is very hearty and will eat as much as a draught horse. My one trouble with him is to prevent him from eating too much. He is not in the slightest degree delicate about eating, the same as Domino was. "Electioneer is not a quick breaker. It takes him some time to begin to race. This is a serious baudlcap. But he is not so slow that he cannot keep within striking distance of his leaders. He is a big youngster and as awkward as an overgrown boy. He can handle any kind of weight In reason, for he Is strong even though he hasnt attained his full strength. He is a colt of great courage."
