LAKELAND GETS THE PICKET FOR ,500. American Derby Winner Is Sold by Auction at Gravesend Other Horses Change Hands. New York, September 22. Twenty-three horses in training, among them The Picket, a winner of the American Derby and Brooklyn Handicap, were sold at auction before the races at Gravesend today. The son of Falsetto Voltario brought only ,500, W. Lakeland being the buyer.. The highest price was ,400, paid" by Fred Burlew for Fantastic. Mandarin, also from the Hitchcock barn, brought ,100, W.
