iSTATUS OF THE DOUGLAS PARK CLUB. "Unless the Douglas Park Jockey Club meets with local county obstructions, it is to be congratulated on having entered the family of -western racing, associations under most favorable auspices," says S. B. Weems in a letter from Louisville to Sports: of the Times. "Itwould hardly seem possible that there could be serious interference with a racing plant that when completed will have cost close . to, half a million dollars. But present conditions as reLiting to the turf in Kentucky are peculiar. The Lexington, Churchill Downs . and Latonla tracks operate imder perpetual charters granted by tllc-state with the privileges of booking, while of course, Douglas Park has no such charter. Possibly the charters might be found to be unconstitutional, but they are in force at the present time. Of course,-if the Federal Appellate Court sets aside the Injunction proceedings against the Kentucky State Racing Commission, that will give validity to" the racing law passed by the Kentucky Legislature last winter, and then Douglas Park will be oh an equal footing with all the other racetracks in the state."
