AMERICAN TRAINING METHODS IN ENGLAND. The methods of American trainers . still arouse the Interest of English racing critics. Ranger, in the London Illustrated Sporting News, in writing of the ways of the trainer from over seas, says: "They are hard workers, early risers, clever stablemen. A visitor to down or heath may find them -out at this season by 5 a. m., or earlier, since they love the first .coplness of the morning, ltsbeneficent dew and its generally, wholesome influences. . Horses -thus -worked are,not asked to. do too much, galloping. They are, perhaps,, kept out for as long as two hours and a half, walking and pottering about or picking grass after a necessary canter or so. . Some are stripped and rubbed down in the open air it must be a "delightful experience ere returning to their stable. That seems to be a sort of specialty with the foreign trainers, who believe in a consistent out-ofrdoor treatment as-. far as practicable; .and, judging by results, their argument is , sound enough. They are not beaten by a want of fitness when they bet. A feature of the American trainers practice is. that they bestow special attention and ,study to the question of .horses .food. .More hot maslies are given to them than are prescribed by jthe -English code, .which . generally . provides for a warm mash on Saturday nights as being, adequate for all practical purposes. Three or four such feeds each week may be conceded by the foreigners and any trouble in relation to scouring is apparently surmounted with ease."
