SHIELDS AGAIN QUARRELS WITH SHAW. New York. October 1. Willie Shaw will not ride again this year on the horses runniug In the names of E. U. Thomas and Alex Shields. Because of the way he handled Diamond hi the first race on Thursday, Shields became very angry. It is said, and made a complaint to the stewards, who according to report, did not agree witli the fault finding trainer. .Shields, however, has declared that Shaw could not ride for him again. Saturday he put Miller on Hall-fax and Hlldebrand on Onatas, further indicating his displeasure. Shaws friends say that he did his best with Diamond, also that if Shields had permitted Shaw to ride Go Between in recent races under waiting orders the Meddler horse would have made a much better showing. Shields, -It Is understood, ordered Shaw to take Go Between, who is essentially a stretch runner, to the front, with the result that the Suburban winner has gone steadily backward in form. Shields has found fault with numerous jockeys. He had trouble with Shaw once before this season, but it was patched up. The present breach, however, Is probably a permanent one, for there is much ill feeling between the jockey aud the trainer.
