f SCRANTON PLANS FOR A MILE TRACK. The Scranton Driving and Field Club owns the half mile track at Scranton, Pa., where last week a meeting of four days for runners was held. . The Club was so much encouraged that it is planning racing on a more pretentious scale for next year. It has been decided to build a regulation mile track. The track is built over an abandoned coal mine. The drainage Is perfect The water Is carried through small drain pipes to the old mine shaft, which is in the center field. Scranton has a population of over 100,000 and from Wilkesbarre and other nearby places there Is another 100,000 to draw from. The miners took great interest In the racing.
