ST. LEONARDS SHOULD GET GOOD HUNTERS. St. Leonards, which lias just .been presented to the Breeding Bureau in New York, by James R. Keene, Is a chestnut horse of style and quality, standing 10 hands 1 inch and weighing 1,230 pounds. He was one of the many celebrities bearing the white and blue spots to victory in many of the classics of the American turf. For the men interested in breeding the hunter, St. Leonards should rank seqond to none as a sire, as it has long been the desire of steeplechase men to get a second Hermit, this line of steeplechaser being -especially desired in the sport between the flags. Reports from the keepers of the various stallions have Ikch received at the office of the breeding bureau, and while these stallions were placed rather late in the year 1000, the number of marcs served by them is gratifying to the promoters of this most important work, many of the stallions having received more than twenty matrons for this season with promises of a far greater number for 1007. It must be remembered that the breeding bureau, to increase interest in this line, has offered three premiums to the keepers of the stallions who have the most foals in 1007 .50 to the first, 00 to the second and 0 to the third. Ten of these stallions have, been exhibited nt the county fairs throughout the state of New York and they have created a most favorable impression, eight having been awarded first premiums, one second and one generally admired, while there, was no special premium offered in which the horse .could compete.
