TO CURTAIL LATONIA MEETINGS NEXT YEAR. Cincinnati, O., October :tl. It is more than likely that the Kentucky State Racing Commission will curtail the. Latonia meetings next year, even if the . Iiorsemen- have to lay up and rest their charges for :i few weeks. There is a growing opinion among the members of the commission, and especially three of the bluegrass members, Messrs. Young, clay and lies Cogneta, that the sport is being overdone, and to its detriment, at the course across the river. This opinion is shared by the bluegrass breeders, generally, several of whom have criticized to the writer the long drawn out. meetings here, with their attendant evils, that are apparent to the public .even though, they do not receive any adequate newspaper comment locally. As a matter of fact this caused some little friction when the Latonia Jockey Club recently applied for fall dates. The three members of the commission named favored cutting down the Latonia fall dates and holding a short meeting at Lexington. "The un-preparcdncss of the Kentucky Racing Association, however, to hold a fall meeting on short notice caused this scheme to fall through, and under existing conditions it was finally deemed expedient to let Latonia have the four weeks asked for. This move on the part of the commission, however, may be taken as a straw indicating which way the wind blows, and it is reasonably certain that next year the commission will grant Lexington both spring and fall dates, especially as four of the live members of the commission are residents of the bluegrass section. With time in which, to make its announcements as to stakes and purses it would look as though Lexiugton might have a successful fhort fall meeting, and -that would relieve matters ro some extent any way.
