CALIFORNIA JOCKEY CLUBS ENTRIES. The Burns Handicap Has 121 Nominations Big Entry List for the California Derby. The Burns Handicap has received 121 nominations. Last year It had 134. In view of the disaster of last spring the patronage awarded the star event of California racing is surprisingly good and the officials of the California Jockey Club may well feel elated. All of the other stakes that closed for entries October 29, filled exceedingly well. The total is somewhat short of that of the previous year, but that was to be expected, in the meantime all that could be hoped for in the way of entries has been attaiued and some distinguished newcomers will Kerva to arouse the interest of Californlans including Rapid Water, Logistilla, Security, King Cole, Blondy, Ostrich, Arimo, Temaceo, Eddie Ware, Miss Rillie and others that have run well this year in the east and middle west. All of the favorites of lust winter such as Proper, Bearcatcher, Lubln, True Wing, Dr. Leggo, Nealon, Neva Lee, Military Man, OInette, Shot Gun, Ruby, Red Leaf, Princess Tltauia, Corn Blossom, Borghesi, F. W. Barr, i Gloomy Gus, Sir Edward and Tocolaw are heavily engaged in most of the events. The Burns Handicap entries are as follows: Marlus II 13 The Borglan 4 W. B. Sandstone, . . . . . .rJr .Tony. .Faust . . Squire Johnson 4 "Vox Populi . . . . - Supreme Court 4 First of the early Derbys of 1907 to close, the California Derby received eighty-seven nominations. This is" an excellent entry list and it will he interesting to observe how It compares witlt the totals of the City Park Derby and Crescent City Derby, to be announced shortly. The majority of the nominations arc of comparatively unknown youngsters, from among whicli some good ones may emerge as the racing prior to Derby Day progresses. Aside from the dark division Blondy, Woolma, Vox Populi, Temaceo, Miss Officious, Native Sou, Mabel Hollander, Eddie Ware, Arimo, Fair Fagot, Mechant, Triumphant, Gromoboi and Blagg have good racing credentials and the Derby will no doubt prove an interesting race. Compared to the two similar events at New Orleans it is not sufficiently endowed and the California Jockey Club would probably find it profitable and popular to at least double its added money In the future. The Derby entries are as follows: , Aftermath. Kilter. Al LIndley. Kruka. Alaric. Lure OGoId. Alta Spa. . Mabel Hollander. Altanero. May Amelia. Arimo. Mechant. Arragon. Minta O. Attica. Miss Officious. Bill Utter. Native Son. Blsagno. Neva W. Blagg. Ocean Shore. Blondy. Orelio. Bogum. Ostlac. , Bonaventure. Paiadlnera. Calmar. Palemon. Charley D. Perjuicio. Cheers. Peseadera. Clamor. Plausible. Colonel Jack. Poeahouta. Conio. Prince of Castile. Coredoe. Red Ball. Costados. Uoalta. Doc Craig. Royal Maxim. Dominus Arvi. Sam Barber. Eddie Ware. Sam McGlbben. F. Nugent. Seven Bells. Fair Fagot. Silvestra.. Fairy Street. Singsworth. Frascuelo. Small Gold. Fred Mulholland. St. Elmwood. Galvestonlan. Sycamore. Gemmel. Talentosa. Gold Heather. Tanana. Grace St. Clair. Temaceo. Gromoboi. Tony Faust. Hilo dc Oro. Triumphant. Huerfano. Valadola. J. R. Laughrey. Valeureuse. Joe Carey. Vox Populi. .Toe Harlan. Wheel of Fortune geld. Joe Kilday. Wool Sandals. Joe Riley. Woolma. John H. Sheehan. Yarbor. For a four mile race, the Thornton Stakes -was patronized 4o an extraordinary measure, receiving the surprising number of forty-eight entries. Evidently distance has no terrors for more owners than would be suspected. Since The Bachelor established his remarkable record in this race the Thornton has in the main been contested by mediocre plodders, but from the character of the nominations it is possible, good day and -track, that the Thornton of 1907 may bring about the establishment of a new record at four miles. A race at. the distance -with such fast and staying horses as Nealon, Lubin, Proper, Logistilla, Dr. Leggo, Borghesi, Good Luck, Miss Rlllle and Reservation among the starters would justify a long journey to witness. The stake has an additional closing fifteen days prior to the date on which it Is to be run. Following are the nominations: Marius II 13 The Scribe 5 Grafter 8 Dr. Leggo 4 Angeleno 7 Fair Reveler 4 Circus 7 Graphite 4 Benvolio 0 Little Joker 4 Byronerdale 0 Logistilla 4 Epicure G M. A. Powell 4 Exapo 6 Mamie Algol 4 Iras 6 Royal Red 4 Lubin G Supreme Court 4 Proper G Woodsman 4 Reservation 6 Arnetts Laton 3 Veterano G Atkins 3 Bombardier 5 Blondy 3 Borghesi 5 Captain Bush 3 Chablis 5 El Primero 3 Dusty Miller 5 Good Luck 3 Glisten 5 Governor Davis 3 Harbor 5 Huston 3 Jack Little 5 Joe Coyne 3 , Liberto 5 Nealon 3 Miss Rillie n Queen Alamo 3 Scotch Thistle 5 Ramus 3 Sherry 5 Tom Roberts 3 The entries in the Pacific Union, Crocker, LIssak and Follansbee Handicaps are very similar. The j nominations to the latter event will give a good I line on the horses engaged in these four stakes: I Sir Edward, Bright Albert, Kumiss, Rolla, Petit Due, Arimo, Allerion, Roalta, Perjuicio, Talentosa, Altanero, Gateway, Im Joe, Joe Carey, Tony Faust, Miss Officious, Salnada, Neva Lee, St. Elmwood, School Belle, F.
