GLAMOE WHIPS COLLOQUY. DAUGHTER OF HASTINGS WINS THE CRESCENT CITY STAKES IN CONVINCING STYLE. Sir Toddington Is Overrated Dr. Spruill Wins for Ellison Little Scout Victorious in the Mile and a Half Race. New Orleans, La., December 1. The card of seven races, with the Crescent City Stakes as its feature, attracted a big crowd today. In fact the attendance taxed the capacity of the fair Grounds. After today it would appear that the admission fee or .".00 has come to stay in these parts. The Crescent City Stakes brought out some of the best two-year-olds here. Colloquy, on her recent brilliant form, was a hot favorite, -while Glamor was somewhat overlooked in the -belief that Sir Toddington, or the Burlew and ONeill pair, would furnish the contention. The race was between Colloquy and Glamor from start to finish. The latter won like a youngster of a good bit more than ordinary class, ns on her breeding she should be. Colloquy, speedy as she is. more than met her match. Sir Toddington on his showing of today can be regarded as nn exploded equine juvenile wonder. The colt showed early sjeed, but he tailed off shortly after the start and was not a serious factor in the race. Glamor was bred by August Belmont, and Glory, her dam, "Won many good races in the colors of W. C. Daly to whom her racing qualities were leased. C. It. Ellison took another purse -with Dr. Spruill which, under a strong ride by Nicol, defeated Hanni-Iwl Bey in a good finish, and G. C. Bennetts remarkable old campaigner. Little Scout, exhibited more than a tlash of his best form -when he waited on a well sustained pace and beat Safetv Light with something left in the mile and a half selling purse. Garner, who rode Safety Light, claimed a foul against the winner, but it -was not allowed. It was against Mr. Bennetts" wishes that Little Ncout was started, as he considered a mile and a half a strenuous journey for the old horse. Little Scout pulled up lame. Pat Dunne thought Airship could win the opening race with Nicol as pilot and probably his view would have been correct bad not rough riding, so much evidenced at the meeting, ruined Airships chances when Mountain, on Kohinoor, shut him off sharply when turning out of the backstretch. Robert Tucker sent his first winner at this meeting to the Kst in Consideration, He backed-the horse at liberal odds. Homy Wutturson was claimed for 00 br Kay Sjiemv. -who subsequently resold him to "James Arthur at an advance of 00. Twenty books and two field books drew iu and the speculation whs the best of the meeting. W- Strcett got into a tangle over a jockev fw Toboggan. Streett first engaged McDaniel to ride leforo he was certain he could secure Nlcol. Later he engaged Nicol. The judges allowed Nicol to ride, hut warned Strrctt and ordered him to pay the jockey fees of toth 1kvs.
